Ghent - Belgium
City of Ghent

Ghent is a historic city with a large cultural lineup, a lively harbour and business life, and an internationally renowned university. It rivals Bruges - as in past medieval times (!) - for the crown of Flanders’ top cultural city. The beautiful architecture of the city centre is a silent witness of its great past and invites visitors for strolls along the banks of its rivers. No visit to Flanders is complete without a visit to Ghent.
Port of Ghent

The seaport of Ghent is a direct gateway to Europe’s most densely populated region.
As the port is situated inland, it has an excellent and fast nautical access to the North Sea for Panamax vessels up to 85,000 DWT. At the crossroads of the major European highways, linked to the European rail network and developing into the entrance of the ‘Seine Nord’ canal to Paris, the seaport of Ghent is a natural distribution port for B2B and B2C commodities.
27 km of quays, a new state-of-the-art container terminal, modern bulk and breakbulk terminals and 400 hectares of greenfield land that was recently made available by Ghent Port Company offer a unique opportunity for positioning your operations right in the middle of the action. Scandinavia, Russia and Brazil, among others, are served by regular shipping lines.
Forest products have always been an important commodity group at the port of Ghent. Not only do we host the largest recycled paper newsprint mill in the world (Stora Enso), also several other leading FP-companies have chosen Ghent as their centre of production and distribution. Furthermore we are a leading hub for imports of sawn timber from Russia, Scandinavia, Canada, Brazil and Southeast Asia.
In our stevedores’ warehouses paper and pulp from various origins are stored and our oldest paper stevedore has been active in the port since 1338.
Ghent also plays an increasingly important role as districenter for Flanders and the North of France for the new “sustainable” forest products, such as wastepaper, peat, wood chips and wood pellets.
Port of Ghent is a congestion free port and a good alternative as imPort/exPort. We are large enough to cope but small enough to care!
Welcome!
